In a life full of what seems to be “secret rules”, do you ever wonder if you're even washing your hair right? You pay to go get your hair done and then you wonder If there’s something you should be doing different?! How often should I wash it? What should I use? Do I need to use anything extra? I got you girl!

1. First thing on my list of proper hair maintenance, wash your hair AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. I get it, you have naturally oily scalp and can’t go more than a day.. but the thing is, you have oily scalp BECAUSE you wash every day! The more oils you wash out, the more your scalp has to work to replenish those oils. Challenge yourself to go a little longer each time & watch your oil production lessen. For color treated hair, each wash takes a little bit of the color out every time. If you wash too frequent, your color will not last very long.
2. When you do make it to wash day, use sulfate free shampoo & cold water! I. CAN. NOT. STRESS. THIS. ENOUGH! Sulfate free shampoos will cleanse the hair, but not too much. Sulfectants are cleansing agents and inside of a shampoo can do their job too well if your looking to preserve your color for as long as possible. Using cold water while washing your hair will make sure your cuticle stays closed and your color doesn’t slip out like it would if you use hot water.
3. Use your extra moisturizers! While hair color has come a LONG way as far as not being very damaging, it is still using chemicals that can be a little drying. For your hair to be at it’s full potential, you will need to replenish those lost oils and add extra moisture daily. You can do this by using a leave-in conditioner right after you get out the shower, or by using an oil/serum daily on the mid section to the ends (or you can be an over-achiever and use both.. 10/10 recommend)
4. After you’ve done all of these things and are ready to style, pick a style that can last! Try doing styles that start tighter, then can be manipulated into a couple different other styles before wash day again. Applying heat or heavy tension every day to the hair is not good for the core strength or the healthiness of the hair. Less is best & you will see significant change quickly just by minimizing heat & extra stress on the hair.
Now that you have some extra knowledge for wash day, I hope you implement these good tips & tricks to give your hair what it needs to live its best life! If you try these tricks out, send me a message to let me know what its done for yo
