Wouldn’t we all love to wake up with hair that actually looked presentable? I know that’s not the case for 90% of us out here and our best friend is usually our heat tools! Lets be honest, we wouldn’t dare go anywhere with out at least one of them! Heat tools are life savers most days but if you’re not using them correctly they could also be hair KILLERS.. RIP. Let me give you a couple “hot” tips to make sure your hair stays on FLEEK, not FRIED. Keep reading.......

1. Use your heat protection products! Without this, youre leaving that cuticle open and ready to be blown and cause split ends. Heat protectants are a “guard” and a layer of protection over your hair strand to keep the heat from penetrating too deep. If you’re worried about multiple products being too heavy in your hair, try to use a leave-in conditioner that has the heat protectant inside of it (most of them do).
2. Choose the best tool! I know it may seem silly to spend money on something like that but there is a huge difference in the protection of your hair that will pay for itself! A more expensive brand will come equipped with real iron plates that will last you longer. It will also evenly distribute heat to the entire strand which means you don’t have to heat the same area multiple times so you avoid that extra damage.
3. Turn down the heat! I can not stress this enough. There is never a reason you need to have your tool turned to the highest setting. A good heat tool can be used at a low setting and still do its job just the same. If you feel your hair is too thick or coarse, try using smaller sections instead of higher heat. Your hair really shouldn’t be cooked at the same temperature as your chicken.
4. Replace the lost moisture! If you are an avid hot tool user, make sure your replenishing the moisture you are losing when you’re applying the iron. Using a nice moisturizing oil is a good way to add moisture and increase shine for your finished style. You could also replenish moisture by using a conditioning balm or hair mask once a week.
